The stupa, from the Sanskrit word for "heap", is a structure created to house important Buddist relics.
Zen's storied past goes back thousands of years to the time the Buddha held up a single flower and one of his disciples smiled.
But Zen is not really about history or relics. it is about this life, this very moment before you. When we understand that fully, we can clearly see that the Buddha and all our spiritual ancestors are still alive with us right now.
And then each time we see a stupa, it will remind us that not a thing in this world is not holy, even you and me.
